Did you Know Uraca was founded in 1893?

-  Bad Urach, Germany     3/28/2025 -

It has been some time since Uraca was founded in 1893. In a time before cell phones, computers, and Al- life was much simpler. Some famous events taking place during the founding of Uraca in 1893 include:

  • The World's Columbian Exposition highlighting advancements in technology opened in Chicago
  • New Zealand was the first country to grant women the right to vote
  • "The Panic of 1893" caused widespread hardship in the United States and spread worldwide but was eventually overcome by growth and innovation of the Second Industrial Revolution.
  • The Ferris Wheel was introduced at the Chicago Expo
  • Rudolf Diesel patented what would become the modern diesel engine

A year of bold innovation and progress- 1893 was the early start of new ideas that led to the automobile, flight, and many other modern technologies we often take for granted today. One of the founders of URACA, Gustav Magenwirth was inspired by the possibilities of the growing world of machinery. As a young man, Magenwirth worked for Karl Benz in Mannheim and worked on early piston engines for a company that would eventually be named "Mercedes Benz".

After 5 years working for Karl Benz, the young Gustav returned to Urach (today known as Bad Urach). By 1893, he was ready to start a new company with the help of his cousin, Friedrich Krumm. Although his first dream was to use his new company to build automobiles, Uraca eventually grew to become one of the world’s leading plunger pump manufacturers.

Uraca's longevity is an attest to the commitment, of the still privately held company, to provide quality products and services regardless of global events. Uraca has grown over many decades despite wars, financial meltdowns, and other economic turmoil. Why is this important to a customer? Simply, in today's world of companies coming and going, a buyer isn't always assured of product support or parts. Investing capital for equipment for a plant scheduled to produce for 30 to 40 years, there is a cost if a supplier is not available or unable to make the parts required for the equipment to keep running. Uraca has a long track record for supporting customers for the life of their investment.

As part of the Uraca global team, Chemac, Inc. is proud to be part of the Uraca tradition of excellence and service since cooperating with Uraca since 1966.
