Alvin, Texas – Chemac Inc. hosts internships that allow Engineering students real hands on experience. Students are active with live projects, repairs, inspections and research that allow them to build skills and get “real world” experience. The Chemac Inc experience is designed for an eager engineering student looking to develop hands on and office skills. The internship is very demanding and puts students in real life situations where their knowledge is put to the test. A typical intern spends almost as much time in the shop learning hands on work as in the office working on projects. Students are kept on timelines and guided to learn as much as they can during their internship. The internship is not about making copies and filing… well they may have to so this too, but the students are really being put to the test with the special assignments, projects and shop work.
Claire Porter, an Engineering student at Georgia Tech, was selected for the Chemac Inc Alvin location over many candidates applying for the same internship. Each year Chemac Inc carefully selects a student for the demanding internship. “We look for a candidate that is self-motivated, focused, and able to handle multiple tasks as a team player”, said Chris Schneider, Chemac Inc.’s mentor for the Engineering program. “We are not looking for an “in office” intern. We want to see a special level of motivation to see, feel and experience everything that makes engineering a special skill”, he said.
Engineering internships, at Chemac Inc, can last up to 18 months. Selected candidates, who excel in their internship, are eligible for the Professor Dettinger Engineering Award. Candidates interested in the 2014 Internship can send their Resumes to vcoveli@chemacinc.com
